Biography

Dr. Rozzeta Dolah, trained in Japan and is a Chartered Engineer registered in UK, is a senior lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, in Razak School of Engineering and Advanced Technology, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She is currently a post doctoral fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, USA with expertise in robust quality engineering for nanotechnology in renewable energy. Her area of interests are in microfluidic and nanofluidic transportation system for energy conversion from biomass into aviation fuel, with particular emphasis on the technical experimental design and optimization. As Minitab trainer, she involves mainly in process robustness against variation in order to boost yield and production of a system.

She also works in several labs and have lead the design and optimization of a biomass reactor for second generation pyrolysis for bio fuel conversion and adhesion in flexible packaging film. She has the access to a broad range of industrial application utilizing robust statistical optimization using Minitab. One of the industrial collaborations that she involved in are the reduction of CO2 emission in TNB Malaysia’s power plant using nano catalyst in marine micro algae photo bioreactor. A device called ‘NanoTier’ is designed and built and tested in the existing Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) photobioreactors (PBR). Novel nanomaterial as an effective adsorbent for CO2 capture, storage and catalyst for the microalgae cultivation is synthesized and packed in the NanoTier System. The dependant variables that are being optimized are the performance of CO2 adsorption capacity and microalgae CO2 fixation rate of NanoTier device in micro algae growth. The requirements are set to be exceeded 94 mgL-1 of inorganic carbon (IC) concentration and 1g CO2L-1 .day as algal CO2 fixation rate.

Another collaborator is with PROTON, dealing with the robust quality engineering optimization for vehicle dynamic responses in various ride and handling (R&H) performance. One of the suspension’s geometry; the hardpoints is the main focus in trouble shooting and optimizing the vehicle dynamic for ride and handling. This manual approach in tuning the suspension hardpoints and compliance results in bundle of iteration and trial runs. The size of experimental design affects the production time, and most importantly is increasing the production cost. The need to find for better optimization is crucial, which can serve less time to market, less cost incurred and higher reliability of a product design.

As a post doctoral at Microfluidic and Nanofluidic Research Laboratory, under Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT, and having the experience in robust measurement and metrology at Meiji University, Japan; the research has enabled her to develop skills in robust engineering method for nanotechnology. She teaches quality engineering and her experiences in quality engineering was gained under the direct tutelage of the son of the late Dr. Taguchi, world’s renowned Quality Guru. Prior to being in academic field, she has many years of experience as process engineer in a Japanese organization industry where she was involved in Black Belt Six Sigma projects, and solved problems with multiple reduction on production and defects using MINITAB 17.

Dr. Rozzeta is a Minitab trainer, uses it as a powerful statistical software for process optimization, quality improvement in science and engineering field. It provides a simple, effective way to input statistical data, manipulate that data, identify trends and patterns, and extrapolate answers to the problem at hand. The software is vital to investigate the underlying cause of a problem and expedite the problem solving process.

As a member of Japan’s Quality Engineering Society, she led many quality improvement projects through the implementation of Taguchi Method (Robust Quality Engineering), Design of Experiments (DOE), and Lean/Black Belt Six Sigma.
